The creation of a pearl is caused by an unexpected guest within a mollusk. When an irritant, such as a fragment of shell, a parasite, or grain of sand, finds its way inside an oyster or freshwater mussel, the mollusk instinctively begins its delicate work of self-protection. Layer by layer, it coats the intruder in nacre—a blend of proteins and aragonite, the mineral responsible for a pearl’s signature iridescence. Over time, these layers build, encasing the irritant within a pearl sac. Unlike round pearls, which form in symmetrical patterns, baroque pearls develop freely, shaped by their environment and the unique movements of the mollusk. This process can take anywhere from six months to several years, with each pearl emerging as an unrepeatable little masterpiece. It is this unpredictable formation that gives baroque pearls their signature charm, making them a perfect celebration of nature’s raw beauty.

The natural oils from your skin enhance their luster and shine, and herein lies a beautiful symbiosis: while pearls illuminate your radiance, your touch, in turn, brings out their brilliance. 2. Pearls are organic gems and are sensitive to chemicals that can be found in personal care products. They can affect your pearls’ nacre over time and eventually weaken their beautiful shine. To protect them, apply any personal care products before putting on your pearls to minimize exposure. 3. Gently wipe them with a soft microfiber cloth after each wear to remove any residues and store them in your Mother Nacre pouch or a separate compartment in your jewelry box. Avoid using polishing cloths that are treated with cleaning agents as they can damage your precious pearls.

Custom orders, personalized pieces, and earrings are final sale, non-returnable and non-refundable. Adornments containing diamond inlays are considered custom-made and cannot be returned or refunded. If you believe your item is defective, contact us within 48 hours of delivery. RETURN PROCESS:​ To start a return, please contact us via our contact form or email julia@mothernacre.com. Items must be shipped back with recorded tracking within 5 days of the initial delivery date. Customers are responsible for return shipping fees. RETURN CONDITIONS: Unworn and in original condition, free from any signs of wear or damage. Returns must include the original Mother Nacre pouch, microfiber cloth, gift box, and blessing card. ​​ We reserve the right to reject returns that do not meet these conditions. At Mother Nacre, quality and craftsmanship are our highest priorities. Our jewelry is designed for daily wear, but due to its delicate nature—including pearls and natural silk thread—mindful care is essential. Should you require a repair, we are here to assist you. COMPLIMENTARY REPAIRS: Jewelry purchased within 6 months of the purchase date is eligible for a one-time repair for any silk thread breakage. REPAIRS AFTER 6 MONTHS: Repairs needed beyond 6 months will incur a repair fee, including shipping costs, at the customer’s expense. Fees will be determined at our professional discretion. At Mother Nacre, every piece is made to order. Please allow up to 15 business days for your Mother Nacre adornment to be created and shipped. All of our jewelry is shipped from California and shipments are made only within the US. Note: Mother Nacre does not take responsibility for any lost, damaged, or delayed packages. Once items are shipped, the carrier is liable for any loss, damage, or delay including but not limited to an incorrect delivery address or stolen items. Any correlating issues must be handled with the carrier directly. Carrier liability begins when the carrier accepts the package and the items are in their possession in form of documented tracking.
