OUR ETHOS
Mother Nacre, pronounced /nay-ker/, refers to the iridescent inner layer of a shell, also known as mother of pearl. Pearls symbolize a deep connection to the divine feminine and motherhood, particularly the remarkable and magical journey of growing life. Just as each pearl is formed over time, protected within her mollusk, through adding layer upon layer of nacre, so too do we grow and evolve, learn to love and accept our different layers, find strength in our experiences, and emerge more radiant and stronger than before. The spiritual symbolism of a pearl’s birth so beautifully mirrors our own journeys, and those of growing life and motherhood. With our pearl creations, we seek to honor the magical process that brings these treasures to life and the sacred feminine energy they represent.

I’m Julia, owner and creator of Mother Nacre. Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to earthy, calming colors and wabi-sabi-esque objects—an aesthetic that celebrates imperfection and simplicity. My admiration for baroque pearls is a testament to the beauty I see in organic, imperfect shapes and the stories they tell, all of which play an integral role in what inspires me. The process of creation is an invaluable channel for me to bring idea seeds to realization, and to allow my creative musings to take shape, much like the creation of Mother Nacre.

Each Mother Nacre piece is one of a kind, designed and handcrafted in California, with every element thoughtfully sourced and selected. We use natural silk thread, one of the finest fibers in the world, along with precious metals like solid 14k gold and 925 sterling silver to complement our genuine baroque pearls, each unique in shape, size, hue, and luster. In every twist and turn of the silk, you’ll find the echo of ancient traditions and the timeless elegance of pearl knotting. The knot between each pearl represents the bond between a mother and child, soul sisters, loved ones, and the interconnectedness of all life—a reminder that we are part of a greater, intricate tapestry of existence.
